Can you really lose weight sitting in a sauna? The honest answer: **infrared sauna therapy burns real calories and supports weight loss — but it's a complement to diet and exercise, not a replacement**. Here's what the science actually says, without the hype.

At REDSOL Wellness Club in League City, TX (https://redsolwellness.club/services/infrared-sauna), we believe in setting realistic expectations. Infrared sauna is a powerful tool in your weight loss toolkit — when you understand how to use it.

## How Infrared Sauna Burns Calories

When infrared light penetrates your body and raises your core temperature, your body works to cool itself. This thermoregulation process requires energy — and that means calories burned:

- **Heart rate elevation:** Your heart rate increases to 100–150 bpm — similar to moderate exercise
- **Metabolic increase:** Your metabolism ramps up to manage the thermal load
- **Sweat production:** Producing and evaporating sweat requires significant energy

### Calorie Burn Estimates

| Session Duration | Estimated Calories | Equivalent Activity |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 20 minutes | 150–250 calories | Brisk walk |
| 30 minutes | 200–400 calories | Light jog |
| 30 minutes | 300–600 calories | Moderate cycling |

**Important note:** Calorie burn varies significantly based on body composition, fitness level, temperature, and individual metabolism. The higher end of these ranges applies to larger individuals or those acclimated to higher temperatures.

## Beyond Calories: How Infrared Supports Weight Loss

### 1. Cortisol Reduction

Chronic stress elevates cortisol, which promotes fat storage — especially visceral belly fat. Infrared sauna therapy lowers cortisol, removing a key hormonal barrier to weight loss. Learn more: Infrared Sauna for Stress Relief (https://redsolwellness.club/blog/infrared-sauna-stress-relief).

### 2. Improved Sleep Quality

Poor sleep disrupts hunger hormones (ghrelin and leptin), leading to increased appetite and cravings. Regular infrared sauna use improves sleep quality, supporting better appetite regulation.

### 3. Reduced Inflammation

Chronic inflammation is linked to insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction. By reducing inflammatory markers (https://redsolwellness.club/blog/infrared-sauna-inflammation), infrared sauna supports healthy metabolic function.

### 4. Enhanced Circulation

Improved blood flow supports nutrient delivery to cells and waste removal — both important for metabolic efficiency.

### 5. Detoxification Support

Environmental toxins stored in fat cells can interfere with metabolic function. Infrared sauna detoxification (https://redsolwellness.club/blog/infrared-sauna-detox) helps eliminate these metabolic disruptors.

### Your first infrared sauna session is $29 at REDSOL Wellness Club in League City, TX.
