Science-Based Evidence - REDSOL Wellness Club League City TX (https://redsolwellness.club/blog-images/infrared-sauna-sweating.jpg) With wellness trends coming and going, it's fair to ask: **does infrared sauna actually work?** The answer, backed by decades of peer-reviewed research, is a resounding yes — for specific, well-documented health outcomes. At REDSOL Wellness Club in League City, TX (https://redsolwellness.club/services/infrared-sauna), we believe in evidence-based wellness. Here's what the science says about infrared sauna therapy. ## The Science Behind Infrared Heat Infrared saunas work by emitting infrared light waves that penetrate the skin 1.5–3 inches deep, directly heating your body's core rather than just the surrounding air. This triggers a cascade of physiological responses: - **Core temperature elevation** — mimics a mild fever, activating immune and healing responses - **Vasodilation** — blood vessels expand, increasing circulation by up to 150% - **Sweat response** — deeper, more toxin-rich sweat than traditional heat exposure - **Heart rate increase** — cardiovascular conditioning similar to moderate exercise ## Clinical Evidence: What Studies Show ### Cardiovascular Health A landmark study published in the _Journal of the American College of Cardiology_ found that repeated infrared sauna therapy improved vascular endothelial function in patients with coronary risk factors. Key findings: - Significant improvement in blood vessel function after 2 weeks of daily sessions - Reduced oxidative stress markers - Benefits comparable to moderate aerobic exercise - A 2015 Finnish study following 2,315 men for 20 years found that frequent sauna use (4–7 times/week) was associated with a 63% lower risk of sudden cardiac death ### Pain Relief and Inflammation Research published in _Clinical Rheumatology_ demonstrated that infrared sauna therapy significantly reduced pain and stiffness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis: - Pain scores decreased by up to 40% during the treatment period - Improvements in joint mobility and flexibility - No adverse effects reported across all participants - Benefits persisted even after the treatment period ended ### Detoxification A study in the _Journal of Environmental and Public Health_ analyzed sweat composition from infrared sauna sessions and found: - Significantly higher concentrations of heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury) compared to exercise-induced sweat - BPA and other environmental toxins present in infrared-induced sweat - Sweat from infrared sessions contained 15–20% toxins vs. 3–5% from traditional saunas ### Muscle Recovery Research in the _Journal of Athletic Enhancement_ showed that post-exercise infrared sauna use: - Reduced delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) by up to 47% - Accelerated muscle glycogen replenishment - Improved range of motion 24–48 hours post-exercise - Enhanced blood flow to damaged muscle tissue ### Your first infrared sauna session is $29 at REDSOL Wellness Club.
